Burn Permits
Please read carefully and choose the correct burn permits.
If you are needing a burn permit in the city limits of Kimberly and/or Hansen, please select the appropriate burn permit request. This form will submit directly to the Rock Creek Fire District for approval. Alternatively, you can stop by the Fire Station located at 1559 Main St. North in Kimberly and fill out a paper copy for burn permits.
If you live in the county limits of Twin Falls, and do not reside within any city limits, you need to fill out a burn permit through the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL). IDL permits are free of charge. May 10th through October 20th is when a burn permit for any non recreational burning is required. It is YOUR responsibility to have all the necessary permits, approvals, and notification in place for YOUR location prior to ignition. If you live in the City of Murtaugh, burn permits are not required for burning of any material. Please give the Rock Creek Fire Department a heads up for when you do decide to burn, so the on-duty staff are aware.
Rules for burning
1. No burning shall be done before 8:00 a.m. or later than 7:00 p.m.
2. No burning shall be done on Sunday at any time.
3. Fires must be extinguished at or before 7:00 p.m., not exceeding three (3) hours in one day.
4. Fires shall be under constant observation by the permittee, or other competent person acting for him/her, and shall not be permitted to smolder, give off heavy smoke, flying sparks, noxious odors, or otherwise create a nuisance in the neighborhood.
5. Material burned under this permit shall not contain bones, rags, rubber, petroleum products, plastics, asphalt or composition roofing, tar, tar paper, paints, railroad ties, or be too wet or compact to burn freely.
6. The person to whom this permit is issued shall be responsible for such fire and observation of the above conditions. A violation or failure to observe any of said conditions by said permittee, or by any other person acting under this permit, SHALL CONSTITUTE A MISDEMEANOR BY THE PERMITTEE AS WELL AS BY SUCH OTHER PERSON, AND THE PERMIT MAY BE REVOKED.
7. It shall be unlawful for any person to suffer, cause or permit any open burning within the city if such burning is not in conformance with a permit issued by the City of Kimberly, except that permits shall not be required for open fires used for the preparation of food, campfires and fires for recreational purposes, under control of a responsible person.
