Safe Haven Baby BOxes

The Rock Creek Fire District and the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office are proud to partner on an important effort to bring the first Safe Haven Baby Box to Idaho’s Magic Valley region. In 2024, Idaho authorized the use of newborn safety devices, allowing parents in crisis to safely and anonymously surrender an unharmed newborn at an approved location. Although Idaho now has boxes in Blackfoot, Sandpoint, and Weiser, none are located in the Magic Valley, leaving many area residents more than two hours from the nearest option. By bringing a Safe Haven Baby Box to our community, we can provide a secure, compassionate, and potentially life-saving resource for vulnerable infants and parents who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. This partnership represents a shared commitment to protecting children, supporting families in crisis, and ensuring that distance is never a barrier to saving a newborn’s life.

About baby boxes

Safe Haven Baby Boxes provide a secure, anonymous, and life-saving option for parents who are experiencing a crisis and feel unable to safely care for a newborn. The boxes allow an infant to be surrendered without fear of judgment or immediate confrontation, while automatically alerting emergency personnel so the baby can quickly receive medical attention and protection.

Supporting Safe Haven Baby Boxes can help prevent unsafe abandonment, reduce preventable infant deaths, and give overwhelmed parents a responsible and compassionate alternative during an extremely difficult moment.

Approving these boxes is a practical way for communities to protect vulnerable children while offering hope and support to parents who may feel they have nowhere else to turn.

Idaho legalized Baby Boxes in 2024 and the Magic Valley currently has none available. The closest Baby Box is over two hours away.
